Dear Partners,

This is the third year since Queer Theology Academy was founded. We are grateful that you have shared our commitment to seeking justice and the essential demand for true equality and respect for the sexual minorities in the face of heavy social pressure. We believe that we should continue to promote the basic principles of human rights; to practice the mission of the Christian Church in caring for the marginalized, and to follow the spirit of Christ in walking in humility with the sexual minorities.

We are thankful for you support and from other partnering organizations, we continue to make progress in publication, theological education, pastoral care and fellowship, and local and overseas conferences and visits.

  • Publication: In cooperation with Blessed Minority Christian Fellowship (基恩之家), we published the Chinese edition of Radical Love: An Introduction to Queer Theology, authored by the renowned queer theologian Rev. Dr. Patrick Cheng. We held a book launch party as well as two book discussion clubs, guest speakers included Rev. Canon Alan Chan (陳佐才法政牧師), Rev. Fr. Stephen Chan (陳滿鴻神父), Prof. John Chan (陳韋安教授), Dr. Christina Wong (黃慧貞博士), Dr. Rose Wu (胡露茜博士), and Dr. Denise Tang (鄧芝珊博士).

  • Theological education: We were invited by Prof. Hannah Chen (陳文珊教授) of Yu Shan Theological College and Seminary, Hualien, Taiwan to participate in a series of forums concerning the LGBTQI rights movement and democratic movement in Hong Kong and Taiwan (「LGBTQI性別平權路與港台二地的民主運動」座談會). We also conducted a course on queer and spirituality (「酷愛•同志信仰探索課程」), a study group for authors of our upcoming publication Sexual/Beings III (「《人性3》釋經讀書會」), and arranged a roundtable conference on queer theology with visiting scholars from Taiwan (「港、台酷兒神學圓桌會議」).

  • Pastoral care and fellowship: We continue to run the program “Caring Community for the Queers” (CCQ),we provided professional support services to sexual minorities through CCQ app, hotline and support group. We held training workshops (「創見性小眾友善生活」講座) specially designed for preachers, teachers, social workers and counsellors to promote appropriate pastoral care to meet the needs of sexual minorities.

  • Local and overseas conferences and visits: Apart from the exchange with Taiwan theologians mentioned above, we also sent representatives to visit sexual minority groups and theological education organizations in the Philippines, Indonesia, etc. We also actively participated in other overseas theological and human rights conferences.

In the coming year, we will focus on the publication of Sexual/Being III, a book on queer reading of the Bible, holding Counseling training workshops (「創見性小眾友善生活」講座) and conducting a Christian-Buddhist dialogue on spiritual care (「愛到彼岸.耶佛的心靈關懷」). New developments bring new challenges and needs; we target to raise HK$320,000 to meet our event and operating expenses. Apart from membership fee and grants, we are still in need of HK$200,000. Your support and motivation are not only the forces backing our ministry, but also witnessing this companionship with the sexual minorities. We promise that your donations will be fully engineered toward the formation of a changing power for creating a more equal and more inclusive environment in the future, as we believe that this is an issue also concerning “us” as much as it has been concerning “them”.
