It is now a year since Queer Theology Academy (QTA) was founded. We are grateful that you have shared our commitment to seeking justice and the essential demand for true equality and respect for the sexual minorities in the face of heavy social pressure. We believe that we should continue to promote the basic principles of human rights; to practice the mission of the Christian Church in caring for the marginalized, and to follow the spirit of Christ in walking in humility with the sexual minorities.

We have encountered many difficulties in the past year, nevertheless, the spiritual and financial support from partners like you have helped us greatly in reaching our mission and achieving some of our goals in the first year.

In collaboration with HKCI, we have published our first book "Who Isn't Queer? Exploring Queer Theology in the Context of Hong Kong" The book signifies the first public discourse on queer theology in Hong Kong, and also affirms the theological reflections base on the personal experiences of sexual minorities. The book has managed to reach the LGBT churches and fellowship groups in both Taiwan and mainland China, and is currently on sale at major bookstores in Hong Kong.

We have organized the 2014 QTA Asian Workshop in July. A total of 25 LGBTIQ Christian pastors or lay leaders from Hong Kong, Taiwan, and mainland China committed to a ministry of providing pastoral care for LGBTIQ Christians in their communities were selected to attend this week long workshop to explore contextual queer theologies and pastoral care relevant to their communities, and aspires to contribute to the larger theological perspectives.

We have also created both a website and facebook page that feature our book, different events and articles. We organized regular study group to explore topics on queer theory, gender identity, queer theology and queer interpretation of the Bible. We also started a monthly meditation featuring different practices for people to experience spiritual attunement and to open up the flow of life current.

Looking at the year ahead, we expect to face more challenges when we continue with our ministry. We target to raise HK$380,000 to meet our operating expenses in carrying out our work. Focus of the coming year includes the setting up of empowering pastoral counseling for sexual minorities and training workshops, publication of a new book focusing on queer reading of the Bible, queer theology workshops in Taiwan and China, drama based on our first book, and the development of e-resources centre for Asian queer theology.

Your support and motivation are not only the forces backing our ministry, but also witnessing this companionship with the sexual minorities. We promise that your donations will be fully engineered toward the formation of a changing power for creating a more equal and more inclusive environment in the future, as we believe that this is an issue also concerning “us” as much as it has been concerning “them”.
